By signing this registration form, I agree and understand the terms and conditions below.

  • I agree that I am the property owner/I have a mandate from the owner which is attached to these forms to sign this agreement.
  • I agree that the bank details provided herein are those of the property owner.
  • I agree that any equipment proved will not be used to replace any municipal meters.

PREPAID METERING AGREEMENT

This Agreement is made between:

  1. The Service Provider: Prepaid Now, a provider of prepaid metering systems and services (“we”, “us”, “our”), and
  2. The Meter Owner: The individual or entity who owns or represents ownership of the property and meter(s) installed (“you”, “your”).
INTRODUCTION

By purchasing a prepaid sub-meter from Prepaid Now, you are recognized as the Meter Owner. By registering a prepaid sub-meter with us through our registration form, you confirm either that you are the Meter Owner or are lawfully authorized to act on their behalf. In doing so, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted these terms and conditions, along with Prepaid Now’s summary terms, all of which are binding upon you and the Meter Owner.

By accepting these terms and conditions you or the owner will know that Prepaid Now’s terms and conditions are subject to change without notice and the updated version of our full terms and conditions will be available upon request to our email address or our helpline.

1. Scope of Services

Prepaid Now provides Prepaid sub-metering administration services which include:

  • Issuing prepaid tokens to tenants or users via our platform or approved third-party vendors;
  • Collecting and processing payments from tenants or users, less our service fees (where applicable);
  • Providing access to transaction records, usage reports, and tariff settings via an online portal;
  • Customer support via telephone, email, or WhatsApp;
  • Facilitating key change tokens when switching service platforms (fees apply).
We are not an electricity or water supplier, nor an agent for utility providers. Our role is limited to the administration of prepaid metering.

2. Meter owner's responsibilities

  • Install certified prepaid meters with valid Certificates of Compliance (CoC) from a professional electrician and or plumber;
  • Do not tamper with meters; tampering voids warranties and may have legal consequences, this also includes but is not limited to removing the sim card of a meter or mishandling the wiring of the meter or disconnecting the meter;
  • Meters must be installed downstream from main utility meters, not as replacements;
  • Provide accurate tariffs and inform us of changes annually;
  • Remain responsible for all direct utility accounts;
  • Specify shared cost percentages if applicable;
  • Specify who pays service fees, defaulting to tenant if unspecified;
  • Keep online portal credentials secure;
  • Notify us of ownership changes;
  • Ensure accuracy of all information provided.
  • Ensure that information you have provided to us on any platform including our registration form is correct and that you or the meter owner are liable for any mistakes made , as Prepaid Now is not liable in any manner whatsoever.

3. Fees, Payments & Vending

Collected revenue (less fees) is paid approximately on the 3rd business day of each month but may change depending on differing circumstances, e.g. public holidays and weekends.

  • Platform Service Fee: 9.5% (excl. VAT) for vending.
  • Support Fee: R27 (excl. VAT).
  • Key Change Fees may apply in certain scenarios.
  • Admin fees may be charged when the needing to amend ownership or other details arises.
  • Fees are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Vending method can be changed by written request.
  • If there are any other fees applicable to the owner it will be billed through the prepaid system too, should the need arise.

4. Warranty & Repair

  • Warranty coverage: in line with the manufacturers warranty given per meter type.
  • Covers defects not caused by misuse, tampering, or external damage.
  • To claim, provide proof of purchase, valid Compliance Certificate by a registered electrician and or plumber, and return meter at your expense.
  • Warranty void if meter is removed from our system, i.e. key changed out to another prepaid supplier or tampered with, without our written consent.

5. Liability Limitations

As the Meter Owner, you accept full responsibility and hereby indemnify and hold Prepaid Now harmless against any form of liability, regardless of however it arises. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • claims made by tenants,
  • any interference with or bypassing of your meter or prepaid sub-meter,
  • claims brought by electricity providers due to such actions,
  • interruptions in
    power supply,
  • electrical faults, surges, leaks, or any other harmful occurrences.

You also assume all liability related to the implementation of annual tariff adjustments and any resulting losses, damages, penalties, fines, or costs—whether direct, indirect, or consequential.

We are not liable for tampering or incorrect tariffs.

You further indemnify Prepaid Now for any negligence, legal violations, or misuse whatsoever.

6. Data Privacy

Data processed in accordance with POPIA.

  • Shared only with service providers or as legally required.
  • See Privacy Policy on our website for details.

7. Duration & Termination

  • This agreement starts upon meter registration and remains active until terminated with 60 days’ written notice.
  • Key change tokens may be requested on termination (fees apply);
  • Some terms may remain enforceable after termination.

8. Breach

If either party breaches this contract and fails to remedy within 10 working days of notice, the other party may seek whatever legal remedies may be available.

9. General Terms

  • The above constitutes the full agreement. Updates will be published online.
  • The governing law is that which is applicable in South Africa.
  • Invalid clauses do not affect neither the validity nor the enforcement of the remaining clause in the agreement.
  • Notices must be sent to the last provided property address and email.
